Migrating PKI 9 Instances to PKI 10
Dogtag 9 instances are configured as tomcat6 instances. Unfortunately, tomcat 6 is no longer supported on Fedora 19. To ensure that users do not inadvertently upgrade to Fedora 19 and render their Dogatg 9 instances inoperable, code has been added to check for the existence of Dogtag 9 instances prior to upgrade and to cause the upgrade to abort if those instances exist.
As a clarification, Dogtag 9 instances are those which were originally created using Dogtag 9. These instances continue to work if Dogtag packages are updated to Dogtag 10 (during an upgrade from Fedora 17 to 18, for example). Note that this only applies to CA, KRA, OCSP ad TKS subsystems.
If an upgrade to Fedora 19 is desired, then the Dogtag 9 instances will need to be migrated to Dogtag 10.
The simplest way of migrating a Dogtag 9 instance to Dogtag 10 is to create a Dogtag 10 clone (replica) of the instance.

For non-IPA users, the procedure is roughly as follows:
- Create a new database instance to use as the internal database of the clone instance. If you are using the same machine for both master andclone, then the new instance will have to be on a different port from the original DS.
- Create a pk12 file containing the system certificates of the master using PKCS12Export. This file needs to have the selinux context pki_tomcat_cert_t to prevent selinux errors.
- Use pkispawn to create the clone instance. Note that the default ports have changed between Dogtag 9 and 10. Whereas Dogtag 9 used ports 9443, 9444, 9445 and 9446 by default, Dogtag 10 instances only use a single HTTPS port 8443 (by default) and a single HTTP port (8080). It is thus possible to create the new clone on the same machine as the original master as long as all the ports are different.
- Test the new instance and confirm that everything is working correctly.
- pkidestroy the old master.
- Remove the old DS instance. Be sure to sever any replication agreements first
A sample pkispawn configuration file for cloning a CA is given below. It would be invoked as follows:

pkispawn will create and completely configure the clone instance.
If you cannot migrate your Dogtag 9 instance, it is still possible to work around the install check, The code checks for the existence of Dogtag 9 instances by looking for entries in the directories /etc/sysconfig/pki/ca, /etc/sysconfig/pki/kra, /etc/sysconfig/pki/ocsp and /etc/sysconfig/pki/tks.
You can trick the installer by moving these directories -- say, mv /etc/sysconfig/pki/ca /etc/sysconfig/pki/ca.moved
Once the upgrade is completed, you can move these directories back to their original location. Then run: pki-upgrade to run any upgrade scripts.
Because these instances require Dogtag 9, these instances will no longer be functional. It *may* be possible to get these instances working by doing the following:
- Installing tomcat6 from f18
- Downgrading the tomcatjss version to the version in F18.
Keep in mind though, that even if the instances work, they will be unstable in that they could be broken by future updates on the system. Also, any new RESTful functionality will not be availalble. Doing the migration instead is highly recommended.
